Jay Jang(장환성)
장환성은 어려서부터 화가가 되기를 꿈꿔왔으며, 현실적인 이유로 건축가의 길을 택했고 서른살 즈음 다시 VFX 아티스트의 직업을 선택하였습니다.
그는 언어로는 표현하기 어려운 “본다는 것”의 영역을 표현하고자 작업을 지속하고 있으며, 그의 작업은 세상 혹은 자연을 보면서 느끼고 경험한 것을 나름의 방식으로 만들어가는 실험이라고 할 수 있습니다. 마음의 눈으로 보는 것을 가장 정확히 표현하기 위한 도구로서 그는 주로 컴퓨터 그래픽 기술을 도구로 작업을 하고 있습니다.
Jay Jang의 작업은 자연에서 출발합니다. 그는 꽃이 피어나는 순간과 성장의 과정을 통해 ‘살아있음’과 ‘생명’의 본질을 탐구합니다. 자연을 바라볼 때 인간이 느끼는 경이와 감정은, 결국 인간 존재에 대한 근원적 질문으로 이어집니다.
그의 작품은 멈춰 있는 듯한 세계 속에서도 끊임없이 변화하는 자연의 모습을 담아내며, 고통이란 자아로부터 비롯된 것이고, 해방은 자아를 벗어나는 데서 가능하다는 메시지를 던집니다. 외형의 표현을 통해 내면을 드러내며, 사람의 형상에서 나아가 인간의 종, 그리고 진화의 끝에 대한 성찰을 담아냅니다. 이러한 시각적 실험을 통해, 자연과 인간, 생명과 존재에 대한 깊은 사유를 관객에게 제안합니다.
Jay Jang’s work begins with nature. Drawing inspiration from the blooming of flowers and the process of growth, he explores the essence of being alive and the vitality inherent in life. The emotions we feel when facing nature ultimately lead to fundamental questions about human existence.
His works reflect the constant transformations within nature, even in a world that seems still. They convey the idea that suffering arises from the self, and that liberation comes through freedom from the self. By expressing the outer form, Jang reveals the inner state, moving beyond the representation of the human figure to contemplate humanity as a species and the ultimate trajectory of evolution.
Through these visual experiments, Jang invites the audience to reflect deeply on nature and humanity, on life and existence itself.
